Valentine Man strikes again

In Brussels, every 14 February, the Valentine Vigilantes (that's not what they call themselves, they claim it is Cupid that does it) put stickers on traffic lights to make the red lights heart-shaped. I think it's charming. (If you're wondering about the white triangular light, it's for trams.)

My local bakery was selling heart-shaped rolls today, I hadn't even noticed the shape when I bought my usual ones with seeds on. Had carrot soup for lunch.

But this is what I would have really liked!

People in Brussels enjoy Saint valentine's day! The idea of traffic lights is lovely. Who did start this thing? A mayor?

Apparently the "colleurs de coeurs" (heart stickers!) are mostly students, Miki. The practice is tolerated by the police, perhaps because the people who put them up during the night of the 13th also remove them during the night of the 14th. But it could not be done by any official authority since it is technically an offence: I think the law says that traffic lights have to be a particular size and shape. Anyway, there is nothing like a bit of whimsy to brighten up our lives, and drivers in Brussels need it more than most people!

Oh really! I want to participate in "colleurs de coeurs" next year. This is really good idea. Usually in Tokyo many heart neon signs are glaring. It seems to pay high cost by companies for selling high-price chocolate. But "colleurs de coeurs" is more heartful way and low- cost way for enjoying the Valentine day. And if we can participate in putting them up after working at night, it is petit lovely doing.

I told this thing to many freinds in Japan. All of them said " Wow,Brussel is a fantastic city!" I think so too.
