Palau - clearly showing why the nearby coastline is called Costa Smeralda (emerald coast).

From Palau, a ferry crosses to the island of La Maddalena - where the G8 summit was going to be held before Berlusconi moved it to L'Aquila after the April 2009 earthquake, leaving the local authorities holding the bill for the unfinished conference centre and other facilities that were being prepared for the summit.... This is part of the Maddalena archipelago, and La Maddalena itself is connected by causeway to the island of Caprera where Garibaldi ended his days.
