I'm not lovin' it

Baabul must be one of the silliest Hindi movies I have ever seen (OK, half of one of the silliest movies, I left at the interval), but it pales beside one of the ads that preceded it. A woman gives Santa - whose appearance in red-and-white outfit was promoted by Coke commercials in the first place - a bottle of the eponymous beverage and the slogan appears: "Taste the Coke side of Christmas". What the heck does that mean??!

Me too, usually, for instance I love that they break into song and dance all the time. But this one was just TOO silly, despite the always watchable Amitabh Bachchan! Anyway, I still enjoyed the colours, which are sorely needed in our current cold grey weather.

So you have a collection of HIndi movies? Or can you rent them?

I do indeed have a collection of DVDs bought either in London or (at 1/4 the price of a cinema ticket!) in a local Indian shop, most of which I haven't even got around to watching yet; and the same goes for the ones I video-taped off the TV. However, a Brussels multiplex, Kinepolis, has now taken to showing recently released Hindi movies, and that's where I saw (half of) Baabul. For Dhoom 2, on the other hand, it would be necessary to go to Antwerp if I didn't have the DVD already!

Hmm so they show Hindi movies in Belgium! I never knew that.

They have shown them in Antwerp for some time, presumably because there are enough Indians there, working in the diamond trade, to make it worthwhile. In Brussels we have only had them during some festival relating to India, and there is one on at the moment: I shall be interested to see if they continue after it has finished!
